Craftsmanship That Stands the Test of Time

Good carpentry is what separates a house that feels finished from one that always looks like a work in progress. It is the detail that greets you at every door, frames every room, and provides the storage and structure that makes a home genuinely liveable. When it is done well, you barely notice it — it simply feels right. When it is done poorly, it is impossible to ignore.

At Renova Builds, our carpenters cover the full spectrum of residential woodwork — from first fix structural timber to bespoke fitted furniture and fine finishing joinery. We work to precise tolerances, use quality materials, and take the time to get every joint, mitre, and fixing right before moving on. The result is woodwork that looks excellent on day one and remains solid years down the line.

Bespoke fitted wardrobe carpentry

Carpentry & Joinery Services We Provide

We handle both first fix and second fix carpentry, as well as bespoke fitted furniture across all rooms:

  • Fitted wardrobes: Bespoke floor-to-ceiling wardrobes designed around your space and storage requirements. Hinged, sliding, or open configurations with your choice of internal layout — hanging rails, drawers, shelving, and pull-out accessories.
  • Bespoke shelving & storage: Alcove units, floating shelves, library-style wall shelving, and built-in storage solutions crafted to fit your exact dimensions and finish preferences.
  • Door hanging: Supply and fit of internal doors — flush, panelled, glazed, or barn-style — including all associated ironmongery, latch sets, and finishing trims.
  • Skirting boards & architrave: Accurate fitting of skirting and architrave profiles around doors, windows, and floor junctions — including mitred external corners and scribed internal joints.
  • Staircase work: Replacement of balusters, newel posts, and handrails; fitting of new stair treads and risers; installation of glass balustrade systems on open-plan staircases.
  • Structural timber: First fix carpentry including studwork partition walls, timber floor joists, flat roof structures, and loft hatch installations.
  • Window boards & reveals: Fitting of internal window boards, deep reveals, and plantation shutters to complete window openings to a high standard.
  • Loft hatches & ladders: Supply and installation of insulated loft hatches and folding or sliding loft ladder systems.

First Fix vs Second Fix Carpentry — What's the Difference?

Carpentry work on a renovation project typically falls into two phases:

  • First fix happens before plastering — stud walls, timber noggings, joist hangers, sub-floor structures, door linings, and window frames. This is structural work hidden behind the finished surfaces.
  • Second fix happens after plastering and decorating — hanging doors, fitting skirting and architrave, installing stair components, and fitting any bespoke furniture. This is the visible, finished carpentry that defines the look of the room.

Our carpenters are experienced in both phases and can be deployed at the correct stage of your wider renovation programme, coordinated by our project management team.

Fitted alcove shelving and storage units

Bespoke Fitted Furniture — Built to Your Space

Off-the-shelf furniture rarely fits perfectly. Alcoves are awkward widths, ceilings are not always level, and standard sizes leave wasted gaps that collect dust. Bespoke fitted furniture solves all of this — designed and built precisely for your space, in your chosen finish, with the internal configuration that actually suits the way you live.

We design fitted wardrobes, alcove units, home office desks, under-stair storage, TV media units, and bedroom storage from scratch. We can work from a sketch, a mood board, or a detailed brief — and we will always visit the space before finalising the design to ensure everything is accounted for: pipes, sockets, ceiling slopes, and coving profiles.

Our Process

  • Step 1 — Consultation & Measure: We visit the property, take accurate measurements, and discuss your requirements, finish preferences, and budget.
  • Step 2 — Design & Quote: We produce a detailed design drawing (for bespoke work) and a fixed-price quote covering materials and labour.
  • Step 3 — Build & Fit: Materials are prepared off-site where possible to minimise on-site time and disruption, then fitted precisely in your home.
  • Step 4 — Finishing: All gaps filled, surfaces caulked and prepared for painting, ironmongery fitted, and the space left clean and ready to use.

How Much Does Carpentry Work Cost?

Carpentry costs depend heavily on the complexity and volume of work. As a guide for the Uxbridge area: door hanging typically costs £80–£150 per door including ironmongery; skirting and architrave fitting runs approximately £10–£20 per linear metre; a pair of bespoke fitted alcove units starts from around £800–£1,500 depending on size and finish; a full fitted wardrobe with sliding doors typically starts from £1,500–£3,000. We provide detailed, itemised quotes for all carpentry work before any commitment is required.

Areas We Cover

We provide carpentry and joinery services across West London and the surrounding areas, including Uxbridge, Harrow, Watford, Hayes, Ruislip, Ealing, Hillingdon, Southall, Northolt, and Rickmansworth.

★★★★★
“The fitted wardrobes and alcove shelving they built for us are absolutely beautiful. You would think they came with the house. The attention to detail — the way the mitres meet, the way the paint has been prepared — is genuinely exceptional.”
